Kick-Off Football Season in Style with Iron Accents

1016990_10152652363700942_1276817044_nThe college football season kicked off last week and tonight is the official start of the 2013 NFL season. If you’re anything like the team at Iron Accents, then football season is one of the many joys in life. From the excitement during the final few minutes of a close game when you’re hoping your QB will throw a “Hail Mary” to the big division rivalry games each season, there’s so many things we love about this time of year. And while we love seeing our team get the W, that’s not our favorite thing about football season. No, our favorite thing is without a doubt the great Southern tradition of tailgating.

Ahhh… Tailgating. That time when like minded fans come together to eat delicious snacks, drink tasty beverages and discuss the reason this year is THE year. And while it is fun to attend the tailgating spots of others every once in a while, most of us at Iron Accents prefer to be the host. So, as we get ready to kick-off another great football season, we are sharing some of our favorite must-haves for throwing the perfect gridiron get-together.

Whether you’re hosting a football viewing party at your home or your piling the family into the RV to pre-game in the stadium parking lot, we have everything you need to wow your guests. So keep reading to see what we’ve picked as our football favorites. Who knows… You may even turn the followers of your rival team into your #1 fan.

Beverage Servers

Marseilles Beverage Server

If you’re hosting your tailgate party early in the season, chances are it’s still pretty hot out. So be sure to provide plenty of cold beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) for your guests. We have a wide variety of beverage servers to choose from, including our contemporary styled Solis Beverage Server, our glass and stainless steel Metro Beverage Servers, our easy-to-use Marseilles Beverage Servers and more. No matter which beverage server you choose, you’re guests will be impressed by the way they dress up even the most casual occasions. Go the extra mile and try one of these delicious tailgating drink recipes that are sure to keep your guests coming back for more. Check out our collection of beverage servers here.

Drink Tubs

Rustic Rattan Party Buckets

Another great way to serve drinks in style is with one or two of our generously sized drink tubs. These drink tubs allow for some serious crowd control. Whether you choose a tabletop drink tub or one of our standing drink tubs, you’re sure to accommodate the beverage needs of the masses. All of our drink tubs are built to hold ice for long periods of time without making an annoying dripping mess. Our standing drink tubs are made of copper and hand forged wrought iron stands that bring a little something extra to any event.

Consider using our La Forge Beverage Stand, made of a copper finished bucket housed in a rustic wrought iron stand with an extra shelf below for any extra drinks. As soon as someone grabs a drink from the ice tub above, you can easily refill it with one from below. If you’re looking for a tabletop party bucket, consider our Rustic Rattan Party Buckets. These beautiful rattan wrapped drink buckets come in a set of three and are lined with water tight galvanized steel to ensure there’s no unwanted condensation making a mess on your tabletop. We have plenty of options to choose from, so check them out here.

Serving Dishes

Soho Appetizer Bowls

No tailgating party is complete without a delectable spread of finger foods, grilled treats, and dips galore! Take your display to another level with our gorgeous serving dishes and accessories. Looking for an elegant way to serve your dips? These Soho Appetizer Bowls may do the trick. These contemporary style glass serving bowls are displayed in dark metal stands all at varying heights. Create a glamorous presentation and guests are sure to clean these bowls before halftime.

We may even have some pieces that fit for your specific team. For instance, if there are any New Orleans Saints fans out there, consider using our Fleur de Lis Cheese Picks. Any University of Florida Gators fans? How about our Alligator Soup Spoons?

You probably already have your table linens and streamers in your respective team colors, but you might also want to check out some of our humorous football themed Wooden Box Signs. When displayed at your next football party, they are guaranteed to get plenty of laughs.

So now that you’ve got the beverage servers, the drink tubs, the proper serving dishes and all the right decorations, your tailgating party is sure to claim the W for the home team. So head on into the redzone with all the right gear from Iron Accents and get ready for kick-off!

Our Staff’s Favorite Fall Wedding Picks

There’s been so much chatter about weddings these past few days at Iron Accents, you’d think one of us was getting married this week! Of course, as we’ve realized, you don’t need to be involved in the planning of a specific wedding to justify spending a little time day dreaming. Autumn is such a romantic season, and with so many great wedding ideas floating about, it’s hard not to get pulled in to all of the wedding décor hullabaloo. We didn’t want all of our grand planning ideas to go to waste, so we’ve decided to share our staff’s favorite wedding-inspired picks with all of you! Check out some of these unique pieces:

Kelly’s Pick: Castilian Hammered 3-Hurricane Candelabra

I love this candelabra! The rich brown color of the iron and the simple shape is just perfect for a fall wedding. In order to give this piece extra character, you could wrap garland around the bottom of the base to complement your wedding’s colors and theme. Select your favorite color or scent of candle, or fill the holders with leaves, apples, beads or any other item you’d like to incorporate into your wedding décor. This Castilian Hammered candelabra is such a versatile piece, it would make beautiful centerpieces for any wedding table.

Christie: Glass Bell Jar and Terra Cotta Saucer

Our glass bell jars and terra cotta saucers would be beautiful center pieces for reception tables in fall – or any other time of the year. Fill them with different sized pumpkins and colorful leaves for an autumn wedding, or perhaps arrange a few brightly hued mums. Because the bell jars and saucers come in different sizes, it’s easy to mix and match to create interesting arrangements and variety atop each table.

Teresa: Flame Replicating Candles

I really love our flame replicating candles. These could be used for centerpieces or complementing décor at the ceremony as well as the reception. Additionally, these candles make a perfect décor solution for outdoor weddings. Because the flames cannot be blown out, they will not be affected by outdoor breezes. The soft, earthy colors we have available are excellent for fall weddings.

Terri: Slat Message Boards

Spell out the word “LOVE” using these magnetic Scrabble letters and our slatted message board as a fun way to display the bride and groom’s favorite courting pictures for your guests’ viewing pleasure.  Since burlap is all the rage for vintage and rustic-chic weddings, we’re sure this design would fit well among other décor. Additionally, the simple colors will complement almost any wedding theme, and can later be used at home.

Valerie: Ceramic Letter Dishes

You would not believe the number of brides that order our ceramic letter dishes! Of course, it’s easy to see why. These customizable pieces are perfect for both weddings and showers.  Use the bride and groom’s initials with the “&” in between on the reception or candy table, or spell out L-O-V-E as a sweetheart table centerpiece.  I especially love the hearts, which can be placed on each guest’s plate and filled with nuts or candies for a wedding favor.

Tara: French Quarter Lanterns

One of my favorite items for weddings is our French Quarter lanterns. Not only are these a great piece to complement your home decor, but they also add a simple, romantic touch to weddings – regardless of the theme. Add a few flowers and candles around these lanterns, and they can quickly become table centerpieces. The ringed handles for carrying or hanging on hooks make these lanterns great for indoor or outdoor lighting as well.

Hannah: Submersible Light Strings & Battery Operated  Light Branches

Beautiful décor is a key part of creating wedding memories that will last forever. Chief among this décor are your flower arrangements. Our lighted branches will bring your arrangements to life by adding that soft, romantic glow you are seeking for your ceremony, reception and bridal shower. Limited only by your imagination, our lighted branches can embellish a doorway, a candelabra, and even the shoulders of a chair.

Now – please share with us! Which one of these items do you like best? What are some of your favorite wedding decor ideas?

In other news, our store designer — the talented Terri Winans — is lending her services to a wedding next week using some of the items from our store. Be sure to stay tuned for a follow up post from Terri with all of the exciting photos and details!

Kicking Off Our Fall Wedding Week

A few weeks ago, I heard someone on a TV morning show proclaim that “Fall weddings are the new summer weddings!” I can’t remember exactly who made this declaration, so I’m not sure if it’s based on any real research, but I decided to take it with a grain of truth.

I don’t know if it was just because I finally started to notice, or if it really is a “new” trend, but it seemed like after I heard that morning show comment, autumn weddings were everywhere I looked! I even had a few brides stop by our showroom on their way to check out wedding venues in the mountains.

Of course, an autumn wedding just makes sense. Who wouldn’t want to wed among a backdrop of brightly colored leaves and cozy harvest hues? Not to mention, the cooler temperatures make for a much more comfortable outdoor ceremony or daytime reception.

So, thanks to all of the wedding chatter, we started getting in the wedding mood around Iron Accents. Naturally, we’ve been tossing around all sorts of new ideas – like how our lighted florals would make the perfect touch for an outdoor reception, and how our votive candle holders could make for inspiring centerpieces. That gave us another great idea. Why not host our very own Fall Wedding Week?

All week long, we’re celebrating fall weddings with a fresh, new Houzz idea book, a Pinterest board and we’ll be sharing a blog post later this week with plenty more fall wedding tips and décor ideas.

Of course, we’d love for you all to join in on the fun! If you love weddings as much as we do, please share your autumn wedding décor ideas by leaving comments here, on our Facebook page or by connecting with us on Houzz and Pinterest. Whether you’re planning your own upcoming nuptials, assisting a friend or simply love all things wedding, we’d love to see your ideas!

Cinnamon and spice and everything nice – that’s what I think of when I imagine fall. From the scents to the color palettes, the décor opportunities to the cool, crisp weather, there are so many things to love about autumn that I can’t wait to be immersed in the season. Judging by the activity buzzing about Pinterest, Facebook and the blogosphere, I know many of you are feeling much the same!

Saturday marked the official beginning of fall, and here in North Georgia we’ve already begun experiencing cooler mornings and changing leaves. The seasonal transition seems to have had a profound effect on everyone’s mood. Maybe it’s the fact that the dog days of summer finally seem to have ended, or maybe it’s because we’re all looking forward to a change of scenery. Whatever the case, everyone is a bit more cheerful! So, we started brainstorming. How could we create a way to celebrate everything we love about fall?

How to Create the Perfect Table Setting

It’s funny how something as seemingly simple as setting a table can send homeowners into a full blown meltdown. Unless you’re Martha Stewart herself, hosting a dinner gathering at your home is almost always accompanied by unexpected stressors, snags and setbacks. You want your home to look lived in and comfortable – a true extension and reflection of you inner personality. However, on the other hand, you want your space to look polished and well put together. Attempting to marry the two into a sophisticated and functional dining space can leave you flustered and frustrated. Luckily for you, Iron Accents has plenty of tips and tricks to help you create the perfect atmosphere for your guests.

Choose a Mood
The style of your table décor depends largely on the type of event you’re hosting. Are you gathering a few friends together for a casual dinner over wine, or hosting a full-on holiday bash with co-workers, neighbors and distant relatives? If it’s the former, keep the setting extremely simple and consider choosing something rustic and relaxed – such as a burlap runner and a few iron candlestick holders. If it’s the latter, prepare to garnish with gusto by adding linen table cloths and napkins, seasonal plant centerpieces and, if your party includes more than fifteen people, place cards.

Choose a Color
The color scheme you choose as the backdrop to your dining experience will depend on a few primary factors, and chief among these is the season. For spring, stick to light pastels and lively greens, but for summer, include lots of bright whites and friendly yellows in the form of sunflowers or bowls full of lemons. Autumn means earth tones complemented by deep reds and oranges while winter calls for holiday-esque red and green or blue and silver.

Create a Centerpiece
A centerpiece is the focal point of the table. As such, it needs to be well planned and well placed – but it doesn’t, by any means, need to be traditional or complex. A small succulent garden can make a lovely and unexpected centerpiece for spring while a few lighted branches and frosted pinecones in a tall vase can make for an elegant winter design. Sometimes all you need for a great centerpiece is a bowl full of river rocks, water and a floating tea light.

Arrange Carefully
Like in any area of interior décor, the trick of a great looking design is balance and unity. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean symmetry. In fact, too much symmetry can make your table look too structured and unnatural. Instead, let it flow naturally. For example, if you’re setting several smaller tables rather than one large one, it’s okay to have different centerpieces for each table.

Before your guests arrive, light a few candles, play some upbeat tunes and pour yourself a glass of wine. You’ve worked hard to create the perfect party for your friends and family, so take a deep breath and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Now it’s your turn! What other tips and ideas do you have for setting a table?

Fall – Our Favorite Color

The tastefully creative Iron Accents window dressers and in-store beautifiers have been working overtime of late, rendering the displays and vignettes in the showroom our favorite color – Fall.

Decorative pieces, foliage and vines, table ware, lighted branches and permanent pumpkins with hand wrought stems…all landscaped in the hues of the season, and waiting to become part of your home’s autumn arrangements.

There is a touch of Currier and Ives in the bountiful platters, pitchers, urns and candle sticks and a kick of kid-in-all-of-us upon encountering the sassy squirrel in skirt and sweater ensemble. So many ways to express and enjoy the equinox!

It’s official – we’ve just rung in the long and glorious decorating and celebrating phase of the year!
