Decor We Love: Iron Wall Plaques and Scrolls

iron_wall_artOne of our favorite things about working at Iron Accents is getting to see all the creative solutions our customers come up with when decorating their home. And ever since the rise of Pinterest, home owners have been taking DIY to a whole new level.

To help get your creative juices flowing, we wanted to share some of our favorite non-traditional ways to use some traditional pieces of decor. This month, we’re focusing on iron wall scrolls. We have an expansive collection of wall decor in our online store, and one of our most popular sections is our metal wall decor. We have everything you could imagine including cast aluminum wall plaques, cast iron wall plaques, large wall decor, large metal wall decor, metal wall plaques, personalized wall plaques, rectangle metal wall plaques, round and oval metal wall plaques, square metal wall decor, and the wildly popular wall silhouettes. These wall scrolls and plaques can be used for many things and the sky is the limit when it comes to decorating with different kinds of iron wall art.

In this blog post, we’re going to share plenty of examples of how you can make these beautiful pieces extra functional throughout your home. We’ll show how to perfectly balance a room with an iron scroll placed between curtains, how to make an eye-catching iron scroll headboard in your bedroom, how to use iron plaques as a DIY towel rack in your bathroom for some beautiful extra storage, and as a gorgeous front door hat/coat rack. No matter what you use your iron wall scrolls and plaques for, these are sure to make a statement!

Swirls and curls of richly finished metal that form plaques and grills, friezes, swags and scrolls to add ornamentation to any empty space. Airy yet substantial, these graceful additions pair well with other artwork but can hang alone with ease. Go ahead, start with one…others will follow you home.

One of the most popular non-traditional uses for iron wall art is a headboard. The swirling and curling metal on an iron wall scroll creates an elegant feel in any bedroom. By simply adding one iron wall scroll at the head of your bed, you’ve instantly added refined ornamentation to your space. Not only is it beautiful, but it is considerably more affordable than most headboards. Don’t love the look of the iron scroll headboards? Then, check out our Pinterest board for other DIY headboard ideas, including pressed tin!

Simply chose the iron wall scroll of your choice and hang it on the wall behind your mattress. If you’re looking to really make a statement, use a larger piece metal wall art, like our Oversized Two Section Grill (seen above, 4th photo). Our Dianna Metal Wall Swag has a more youthful flow, while still maintaining a simple elegance and would look beautiful in any bedroom.

If you want to get a bit more creative, consider getting one of our stylish towel bars and hang a large cushion or pillow above your bed for a comfortable, fashionable DIY headboard solution.

Add an extra special touch to your room by placing an iron wall scroll between two curtains, like our friends at Thrifty & Chic (a great blog you should check out, by the way). In the first two photos, you’ll see the iron scroll hung delicately above french doors in a living area and the dining area. The iron scroll works with the curtains to create balance and tie the room together. Of course, placing an iron scroll above a shower curtain is another great use. Bring a touch of luxury to your bathroom like Karla from Karla’s Cottage did in the photo above!

Storage & Organization

Possibly one of the most important and most frustrating things about decorating a home is having enough storage for all of life’s little knick-knacks. Whether you need a place for your crafts, a nifty hat or coat rack that won’t take up too much space, or somewhere to hang your huge collection of jewelry, iron wall plaques can do it all.

In the first photo above, our friend at Very Merry Vintage Style makes great use out of a large, sprawling piece of metal wall decor. We have a wide variety of metal wall art for you to choose from. Consider using our Iron & Tole Tree Wall Art, Metal Tree Wall Plaque, or the beautiful Bella Metal Wall Tree for a stylish way to display your jewelry. You can also use one of our Round Metal Wall Plaques or Square Metal Wall Plaques to display your jewelry like the photo seen above.

Another wonderful storage & organization solution with iron wall art is a DIY towel rack in your bathroom. Since most bathrooms are very limited when it comes to storage, utilizing wasted wall space is a must. Any of our metal wall decor can be made to store extra necessities around your bath. Already have all the bathroom storage you need, but nowhere to hang that wet umbrella and your jackets and hats when you come in from the cold? Create your very own coat/hat rack and hang it in your mudroom for an eye-catching, head-turning decorative piece full of function.
