Today, Memorial Day is celebrated as the unofficial opening day of summer. Grills are uncovered, cleaned, fired up and loaded with savory treats. Friends and family cheers icy beverages and recline on patriotically decorated porches all across the country while children splash around in backyard pools.
We dress our yards with miniature flags and light off fireworks at dusk – but in all of the fun and celebration it can be easy to forget the true reason for this patriotic holiday.
Since the early 20th century, Memorial Day has existed as a day of remembrance for the brave men and women who have died during military service. Some celebrate the day by visiting the memorials and cemeteries dedicated to our fallen servicemen and servicewomen.
Here at Iron Accents, we want to extend a special thank you to all of those who have served in the military to protect those at home. We also want to thank the families of servicemen and women who have spent holidays without their loved ones for our freedom.
Please share with us your fondest Memorial Day memories and photos on our Facebook page. The first 25 will receive a coupon good for 10% off your entire Iron Accents purchase now through May 31, 2012.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
